So they can do more damage in one hit but might lose out in DPS to Dex weapons. These tend to be the jack of all trade sort of weapons, they can hit moderately hard and moderately fast. Quality weapons - these are the middle ground, they improve as you level strength and dex. An example of a good Dex weapon available fairly early is the uchigatana. They scale (get better) when you level up dexterity. If you want massive DPS but not necessarily the biggest single hits then Dex is a good way to go, some of them also have a bleed mechanic where if you hit someone enough times fast enough, they'll start bleeding and lose hp overtime. A basic rundown:ĭex weapons - these tend to be the fast attacks. I'd say plan your general build you're working towards just a bit before, but don't go into specifics about it yet and just play around with the stuff you find to see what you like. Enter a new area slowly and don't charge in to a group of enemies, you will pick up items to pick off or get attention of enemies one by one, much easier than dealing with half a dozen at a time!ĭive in and explore, don't read too many spoilers! Scorch marks on the ground might suggest fire, so look out for environmental clues like that. Look around you - does a narrow alley look suspicious? It probably is. Consumable items are usually found in a place where they might be very useful, so keep those kinds of things in mind. Look at the items you pick up - the descriptions on keys give you a clue as to where to use them. So try to think what you could do differently next time and learn from deaths - you will die, so don't worry about it too much :) That means leveling Vitality and Endurance, the latter also gives you more equipment load so you can wear heavier armour or hold heavier weapons without being overencumbered.ĭon't worry about dying and losing souls early on - a few hundred souls might feel like a lot but it's a drop in the ocean later. Leveling up - Early on concentrate on getting more HP so you can survive more hits and more stamina so you can perform more actions before running out. You find a lot of weapons in game, but this isn't the type of series where you drop old weapons for new more powerful ones - any weapon can take you from the start to finish of the game and the power of a weapon comes from upgrading and stat scaling bonus. Upgrading your weapon gives the biggest boost to damage, so upgrading should take precedence over leveling.Īll the weapons in the game except the starting broken sword hilt are viable, so find a weapon you like using. Example: the Long Sword scales grade-C in both Strength and Dexterity, so leveling up either of those stats makes the weapon more powerful. So find a weapon you like, look at what stats it gets scaling bonus damage from and level up those stats on your character. No class is locked out of using any weapon/item/spell etc, so just pick a class that looks like the type of character you want to start with and jump in.īuild just means what weapon you're using - The power of your weapon increases by upgrading it and also from bonus damage received from your character stats.
